- Well, lets see, suppose your company is buying Amiga Tech from ESCOM, which of
- the following two press releases do you make:
-
- 1. We just bought Amiga Tech from ESCOM. We're going to spend millions in
- R&D and marketing to develop the Amiga as a computer platform so we can compete
- against Microsoft, Apple, and the other clone makers. We're also going to sell an
- Interactive TV (ITV) set top box, ED, based upon Amiga technologies.
-
- 2. We just bought Amiga Tech from ESCOM. We now can build our exciting new
- Interactive TV (ITV) set top box, ED (the next generation of Interactive TV/Telephone
- communications) more cheaply because we do not have to license the Amiga technology
- from ESCOM. We will also continue to support the popular line of Amiga computers.
-
- OK, test time, one of these will get you laughed at. If it was up to me, I'd pick
- press release 2 and drop the line about even supporting the Amiga. My best guess
- as to why VIScorp commented about supporting the Amiga at all is that they wanted
- to let the Amiga community know that they are going to be supported.
-
- There are people at VIScorp who have a history with the Amiga. They need it as a
- development platform. If they're really smart, they'll push to get the Amiga OS
- ported to the Power PC sooner so their set top box is PPC based from the start.
- There is a much bigger picture here. Don't underestimate what might happen here
- when you're talking about possibly selling millions of set top boxes.
-
- BTW, check out who TVI Interactive Systems (http://www.tvinet.com/tvi/) was talking
- to at CeBIT (Dr. Peter Kittel from AT and Don Gilbreath of VIScorp) and also their
- support of the Amiga Java port.
